Mary Covington

Funeral Service for Mrs. Mary Covington will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Raeford, NC. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held Sunday, May 5, 2019, one hour prior to the Funeral Service. Services are entrusted to Purcell Funeral Home, Laurinburg.

Mary Catherine Williams Covington, 96, returned to her heavenly home on April 30, 2019, after a long-lived life. Her devotion to her loving husband of forty-eight years who proceed her in death. Mary firm belief in God supported her throughout her struggles and ultimately gave her peace.

Mary was born to the late Henry Williams and Mary Barbara Bethune, in Hoke County, North Carolina on April 19, 1923. She was joined in holy matrimony to James Lacy Covington on August 19, 1968. 

Mary was a humble woman who loved her family and encouraged other women to always look their best. She worked for a short while as a nursing assistant for Harlem Hospital in New York. Mary had faith that God would always be there to take care of her. When things got quite you could hear her humming a hymn.

Mary is survived by two God-daughters, Marie Jeter of Cameron, NC, and Annette Postley of Raleigh, NC; a great-niece, Daphne Graham-Dudley (Larry); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
