Funeral Service for Garfield Hicks, of Fayetteville, will be held 3:00 O’clock Sunday, October 21, at Spring Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Wagram. With burial to follow in the Mathew Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1228 Butterwood Circle, Fayetteville. Services are entrusted to Purcell Funeral Home, Laurinburg.
Garfield “Dollar Bill” Hicks Sr., was born to the late Flamella and Robert Hicks Sr., on August 31, 1962. Late Monday, afternoon at the V.A. Hospital in Fayetteville, NC, October 15, 2018. Garfield crossed the finish line in this life after a long illness. He fought a good fight with all his might, but God said suffer no more and turned off the light.
Garfield attended and graduated from Scotland High School in Laurinburg, NC. After graduating he entered into the US Army, where he became Private First Class Officer. He was later honorably discharged August of 1986. Upon arriving home Garfield decided to seek employment with JP Stevens in Wagram NC. In 1989, he decided to attend MTA Truck Driving School in Greensboro, NC. Where he was a dedicated driver for 25 years.
He leaves to mourn: his wife, Carmen (Laurinburg, NC); five children, Silikia Hicks (Laurinburg, NC), Garfield Hicks Jr., Carmen Hicks, Malique Hicks (Fayetteville, NC), and Mya Erdkamp (Nebraska); two brothers, Charles Scott (Laurinburg, NC), and Robert Hicks Jr (Winston-Salem); three aunts Mildred McNeill, and Polly Smith (Fayetteville, NC), and Laura McNeill (Laurinburg, NC); one uncle Peter McNeill (Fayetteville, NC); one lovable cousin Shelia McNeill (Fayetteville, NC); and thirteen grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
