Daphney Monroe, 55, of Laurinburg went home to be the Lord, Sunday, December 30, 2018. She was a valued employee of Purcell Funeral Home and a servant to her church and community. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at Purcell Funeral Home, Laurinburg. Burial will follow in the Hillside Memorial Park. Viewing and visitation will be held from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at Purcell Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at purcellfuneralhomes.com. Ms. Daphney Douglas Monroe, daughter of Lacy and Beatrice Douglas was born on December 30, 1963, in Jamaica Queens, NY. She was called to her heavenly home on December 30, 2018.
Daphney graduated from Scotland High School with honors. She furthered her education by attending and graduating from North Carolina A&T State University with a degree in engineering. Daphney was a faithful member of Spring Branch Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary and financial officer. She also was secretary of the Pee Dee Baptist Association.
Daphney was a member of The Order of Eastern Star for many years and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. At the time of her passing, she was employed at Purcell Funeral Home as Executive Assistant.
Daphney is survived by two devoted sons, Jerry Monroe Jr. and Justin Monroe; her parents Lacy and Beatrice Douglas; sister Annette Samuels; brother, Lacy D. Douglas; two nieces Calacia Douglas, and Jasmine Douglas; one great-niece Nhinali Stanley; and a host of other relatives and friends.
