Funeral service for Clarence Monroe will be held 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Purcell Funeral Home, Laurinburg. Burial will take place at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors on Friday, March 29, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. Services are entrusted to Purcell Funeral Home of Laurinburg.
Clarence Monroe was born to Edmond and Anna Rebecca Monroe on July 6, 1949. He was the second oldest child born from this union. He attended Shaw High School in Wagram, NC and after graduating he enlisted into the United States Army. Clarence served in the military from 1967 to 1969. He received an Honorable Military Discharge then went on to serve in the Army Reserve Corps. Clarence was a proud veteran, you would often see him wearing his veteran's cap and toothpick in his mouth when running his daily errands.
Clarence had his first child on April 2, 1971, Clarence Smith known as Junior. He married Lena May in 1975, and out of that union came a set of fraternal twins. Antoine Monroe and Sheryl Monroe-Hunte born May 11, 1974. Clarence adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His hobbies included fishing, listening to music and watching National Geographic’s. He also took pride in assisting in the care of his elderly mother. Clarence worked construction for many years while living in New York. He retired from FED Cap Rehabilitation Services where he was the Supervising manager of maintenance. Clarence was a member of Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church in Wagram, NC.
Clarence was proceeded in death by two siblings, Lucious Monroe, and Tate Willie Monroe.
Clarence leaves to mourn his memories: his mother, Anna Rebecca Monroe; children, Clarence Smith, Antoine Monroe, and Sheryl, Monroe-Hunte; siblings, Phyllis Monroe-Patterson, Mae Rebecca Hicks, Mildred Monroe, Edmond Monroe, James Monroe and Danny Monroe; grandchildren Tyzavia William's, Shennel Hunte, Lionel Hunte Jr., Taliyah Monroe, Britannia Smith, Tiffici Shivers and Kenyetta Corbit; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime peers.
