Christine Alice Gay, 93, passed away peacefully at First Health Palliative Care and Hospice Center on February 16, 2024. She moved to Southern Pines, NC in 2010 with her daughter, Christine, and son-in-law G. Robert Ganis. Mrs. Gay resided and was lovingly cared for at Magnolia Gardens, Aberdeen, NC from 200-2022, and The Greens at Pinehurst during 2022 to present.
Mrs. Gay was born and raised in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, and resided in Harrisburg, PA for most of her adult life. After graduation from Cooper High School, she worked at Hotel Hershey, and attended Hershey Junior College in Hershey, PA. She continued her working career at Nationwide Insurance, and then at Sears and Roebuck, modeling hats. Her real passion was interacting with customers, and handling accounts as a cashier. She retired after many years as a police communications officer for the Pennsylvania State Police in Harrisburg, PA.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward F. Gay, a World War II Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient, and her sister, Helen Green Wottle. She is survived by daughter Christine Ganis (Robert) of Southern Pines, grandson Jason Ganis (Heather) of Maui, Hawaii, and great-grandchildren Micah, Trinity, and Ally; grandson Benjamin Ganis (Beth) of Austin, Texas, and great-grandson Lucas; nephew Robert Green (Carol) of Illinois, and grand-nephew Christopher, and grand-niece Emily.
Christine Gay will be sorely missed by her family. She was a happy, fun-loving person, loved by all who knew her, and to her final days brought cheer and fun to the world around her. She will be buried in the family plot at a later date in Hershey, PA, “the sweetest place on Earth.”
