Tyris Jones Jr. Obituary

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted. A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to breakdown and a time to build up. A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance- (Ecclesiastes 3: 1-4)

Mr.  Tyris (T.J.) Jones Jr., 74, was born to the late Tyris Jones, Sr. and Olivia McNeill on August 23, 1943 in Hoke County, North Carolina. He was called to his heavenly home on April 5, 2018.

Tyris received his education from Scotland County Schools. He was a proud graduate of Shaw High School, Class of 1961. From what was told and known, Tyris Jones Jr. could play baseball and he was great at the game.

Tyris Jones Jr. known by family and friends as T.J., was drafted into the United States Army on May 12, 1967, where he served as an Engineering Equipment Mechanic during the Vietnam War. After completing his time in the military, he was then employed Cox Furniture Company and later by Forester Textiles, in Maxton, NC, where he worked for 20 plus years. T.J. was known for his charm, charisma and definitely his style of dress. At no time, one didn’t see TJ without a starched pair of slacks, dress pants or jeans where the creases were so sharp, you could cut yourself. Oh and don’t forget those Stacy Adams, TJ would put a shine on them you could see your own reflection. Fashionable at all times, and he was definitely a ladies’ man! He loved family gatherings, reading the newspaper and watching sports. His favorite teams were the Pittsburg Steelers (football) and the North Carolina Tarheels (basketball).

T.J. was affectionately called “Brother” by his sister, whom preceded him in death, Mrs. Ophelia Malloy.

Tyris leaves to cherish his memories a rich legacy of children, grands and great grands. T.J.’s Elite 8: Lillie McLean (Jimmy Lee) of Wagram NC; Ronald “Rock” Harris (Shirley) of Charlotte NC, Vincent Jones (Toni) of Goldsboro NC, Tracy Jenkins (Darrel) of Ridgeland SC, Teresa Jones, of the home; Tyris D. “Yogi” Jones, of Laurinburg NC, Ricky Thompson (Shalonda) of Mansfield TX, and Kevin Jones (Ann) of Ladson SC; 20 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
