Lonnie McNeill

The first son of the late Alexander and Fannie McLaurin McNeill was a character from his first breath April 6, 1938 until his final breath April 16, 2017.

He attended school in Peddle Creek until he decided that life had more in store for him outside of NC and made his way to New York - if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. While in NY he met and married the love of his life Laverne and had two beautiful daughters, Tanya and Denise.  

Lonnie often reflected on how blessed and charmed his life was, to leave NC without a high school diploma and be blessed enough to get a job as a manager of a coffee shop - where he basically sat around all day and told others what to do.  He was charming and charismatic, but quite blessed and he knew it.  Even, in his final job at Lincoln Memorial Hospital, he was blessed and skilled enough to become the manager that had very little to do in terms of work.  But, Uncle Pop, as he was affectionately called, loved his family and worked very hard to be all that he could for them until a tragic car accident kept him from that goal.

His twilight years were spent in Laurinburg remembering how much he loved and missed his mother at Central School Apartments and Scottish Pines- he was grateful for the friendship, love, care and kindness he was shown there.  

He leaves to mourn his passing his daughters Tanya (Melvin) Grayson of VA, Denise McNeill of VA, two sisters: Roxanne Ratcliff of NY and Patricia McNeill of NC; three grandsons; several great-grandkids, and host of family and friends that will greatly miss him and love him always.
